It’s almost that time of year again. Black Friday Record Store Day is just eight weeks away, and we have a couple releases in the works that we couldn’t be more excited about…
At The Rock House (pictured above) is the first full length album by Roy Orbison, recorded in 1956 but not released until 1961 by Sun Records. The record showcases Roy Orbison’s early work, which falls somewhere between the rock & roll that was happening in mid 50’s and the more lush, dramatic sound that he later perfected. This limited edition run of 3,000 will be available in white, red, and silver color vinyl, randomly selected and shipped to stores. Each copy will be individually hand numbered.
Billie Holiday is captured live At Storyville in Boston in 1951 and 1953. The discreet recordings capture Lady Day in prime emotive voice. On most selections she is accompanied by the Carl Drinkard Trio, but six others find her joined by Buster Harding’s Trio; the great tenor Stan Getz sits in on three of these numbers. Previously out of press for over 25 years, this historic recording has now been remastered and pressed on a stunning white color vinyl, exclusively for Black Friday 2014. Limited to 3,000 copies worldwide, each copy will be individually numbered with a silver foil stamp.
Note: For those who subscribed to our Black Lion Jazz Reissue series, it’s worth mentioning that this release will not be available in the 180gram LP or 2LP 45RPM formats. The recording quality, specifically on side two, is not consistent with the audiophile-grade standard of the series. Nevertheless, it’s an historic recording that is undeniably worthy of a vinyl reissue, and we’re thrilled that it’s finally seeing the light of day.
