Black Friday Record Store Day 2016

We’re now exactly one month away from Black Friday Record Store Day! This year we have more releases than ever, and we’re excited to finally share them. Below you’ll find the details on all nine (count ’em!) of our Black Friday 2016 releases. As always, you can find a list of participating stores over at Record Store Day’s website.

Mike Watt + The Bobblymen – The Bobblymen EP (7″)

In the words of Watt: here’s three tunes I wrote for the minutemen thirty five years ago  that never got released (hell, one never even got played live and the other two only a tiny bit), I recorded them very recently w/guys I regularly play w/but never together in this configuration which was bob lee’s idea and hence the name of the proj. The three song EP will be released on 7″ vinyl, exclusively for Black Friday Record Store Day. Half of the pressing will come on light blue color vinyl, with the other have on standard black vinyl.

Pop The Clutch: Rare Rockabilly from the Vaults

Pop The Clutch is a new compilation of rare and obscure rockabilly tracks, carefully curated from the catalogs of iconic (and now defunct) labels such as Del-Fi Records and Atco Records. Many of the songs that appear on this one-of-a-kind LP are nearly impossible to find in their original 45RPM 7″ form, making this must have for any serious collector of early Rock & Roll and/or rockabilly music. This limited release features brand new artwork and is pressed on a beautiful white color LP.

Ornette Coleman – An Evening With Ornette Coleman (Part 1)

An Evening With Ornette Coleman (Part 1) is taken from a 1965 concert in Croydon, England. This album captures Coleman during a transitional period that showcases his experimentation with contemporary classical forms. Presented as the first in a two part series, this reissue shines a new light on the fantastic recording from a world-renowned jazz great. Pressed on 180gram color vinyl at Pallas in Germany, this limited edition release features new artwork.

Frank Frost – Hey Boss Man!

Frank Frost’s Hey Boss Man! has long been a “white whale” for many record collectors. The album is one of the last blues records to be produced by the legendary Sam Phillips. Frost and his Mississippi cohorts Jack Johnson and Sam Carr played Southern juke joint blues, rough & ready in the classic mold, with plenty of dynamic interplay and nasty, lowdown grooves. This limited edition red color vinyl reissue marks the first US vinyl release since the original pressing in 1962!

Tav Falco Panther Burns – Sway b/w Where The Rio De Rosa Flows (7″)

Equal parts primal, early rock’n’roll, deviant hill country blues, and avant-garde art, Tav Falco’s Panther Burns are ramshackle, raw, unholy & utterly amazing. For his latest release, Tav Falco teams up with  bassist Mike Watt  and drummer Toby Dammit. The songs were recorded during the group’s 2015 USA Whistle Blower Tour. This impressive line-up is working on a full length album, due out in 2017.

Porno For Pyros – Good God’s Urge

Good God’s Urge is the second and final release from Porno For Pyros, the Los Angeles-based alternative rock band featuring former Jane’s Addiction members Perry Farrell and Stephen Perkins. The album features performances by legendary bassists Mike Watt and Flea, as well as former Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro. The 1996 album was never released on vinyl, making this the first ever commercial pressing, 20 years later. It’s about time!

T.S.O.L. – Revenge

T.S.O.L.’s fourth studio album, Revenge, is now in its 30th year. What better way to commemorate the 30th anniversary than to bring the record back to vinyl? Originally issued on Enigma Records in 1986, the album has now been out of press for decades. This limited edition reissue is being made exclusively for Black Friday Record Store Day 2016.

Ben Webster – Gone With The Wind

This truly incredible performance has been underappreciated throughout the years, in part because it hasn’t been pressed in nearly three decades. The performance took place at the legendary Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen during January of 1965, right in the prime of Webster’s long European period. We’re happy to shine light on the historic recording with this limited edition 180gram white color vinyl pressing, which features new, exclusive artwork.

The Wonder Years: Music From The Emmy Award-Winning Show And Its Era

Anyone who watched The Wonder Years remembers the music as much as any other aspect of the show. The soundtrack is truly unmatched, featuring artists like CSNY, Van Morrison, Buffalo Springfield, and Carole King. The album opens with Joe Cocker’s memorable cover of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends”, which also served as the show’s theme song. Previously out of press since the initial 1989 release, the iconic soundtrack is finally coming back to vinyl with this limited edition reissue, pressed on yellow color vinyl at Pallas in Germany.
