Free Jazz February

If you haven’t noticed, we’ve been doubling down on our offerings of avant-garde and free jazz, and we’re not slowing down anytime soon! We’re happy to announce the release of three fantastic free jazz records, coming next month. You can all about them below, and pre-order copies from our online shop.

Cecil Taylor’s solo piano set at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1974 drew critical acclaim, earning five star reviews from the Rolling Stone Jazz Record Guide and AllMusic’s Scott Yanow. The set features Taylor’s five-movement work “Silent Tongues”, along with two encores. After being out of print for nearly four decades, the classic live album has been remastered at Infrasonic Mastering and pressed on audiophile-grade vinyl at Pallas Group in Germany. The release was previously available as Vinyl Me, Please exclusive. It will be out on February 15th as an Indie Exclusive on transparent orange color vinyl, and available everywhere on black vinyl. Tutankhamun, the 1969 album by avant-garde jazz pioneers Art Ensemble of Chicago, features performances by Lester Bowie, Joseph Jarman, Roscoe Mitchell and Malachi Favors Maghostut. As the AllMusic review states, “This landmark album is one of the most influential free jazz recordings in the ’60s avant-garde canon.” Previously out of print for over three decades, Tutankhamun has been remastered for vinyl at Infrasonic Mastering and pressed on audiophile-grade vinyl at Pallas in Germany. As a bonus, the reissue features “Tthinitthedalen” Part 1 and 2, closing out sides A and B, respectively. The album is out on February 22nd, available on transparent blue colored vinyl as an Indie Exclusive, only at independent record stores, and available everywhere on black vinyl.
