Record Store Day 2015 Announcements

If you haven’t heard the news from our friends over at Diffuser, we have officially announced our releases for Record Store Day next month, which we’re very excited about. As a reminder, Record Store Day falls on April 18th, and you can find a list of participating stores on the RSD website.

We’ve teamed up again with the folks at Record Store Day and Sun Record Company to bring you Volume 2 of  our Sun Records Curated by Record Store Day series (pictured above).  A follow up to last year’s Volume 1, this compilation LP was curated from the classic Sun Record Company catalog by participating Record Store Day stores. It features songs from artists like Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Howlin Wolf, along with deep cuts from lesser-known Sun Records artists. This Record Store Day 2015 exclusive release is limited to 4,000 copies worldwide.

Sun Ra – Calling Planet Earth

Calling Planet Earth comes from a concert recorded at Tivoli Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 5, 1971. Sun Ra and his Arkestra are captured in their prime, while exploring some of their most far out material to date. The recording is finally getting its first ever vinyl release with this psychedelic color LP. This Record Store Day 2015 exclusive pressing is limited to 2,000 copies worldwide. The artwork was designed by our friends in Los Angeles-based psychedelic band, Levitation Room.

Mike Watt + The Secondmen & EV Kain – Shit On Me b/w Striking Out

Once again, we have two of our favorite bassists on one split 7″ release. Mike Watt is joined by his Secondmen for a cover of The Dicks’ Shit On Me. The B-Side showcases an original tune from another California-based trio, EV Kain, which features Jonathan Hischke from our own Dot Hacker. This clear vinyl pressing is limited to 1,500 copies worldwide.

Fool’s Gold – Flying Lessions

As announced last week, we’re thrilled to have Fool’s Gold join us and make their ORG Music debut with this orange vinyl release for Record Store Day . Flying Lessons is the band’s third studio album, on which they bring more of their unique brand of Afro-Pop, along with a few surprises. The album will see its wide release on CD and digitally on May 19th.

Thelonious Monk – London Collection Volume 2

London Collection Volume 2 is the second installment of Thelonious Monk’s final recording session as a band leader. The album features bassist Al McKibbon and drummer Art Blakey backing up Monk as he plays eight original tunes. It’s been remastered from original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman for the first vinyl pressing in over 27 years. This Record Store Day 2015 exclusive edition comes on 180gram audiophile-grade clear vinyl, pressed at Pallas Group in Germany, and is limited to 2,000 units worldwide.
