Born in Mississippi, “Big Bill Broonzy” – the name refers to his 6’ 6” physical stature – remains largely unsung as far as a household name, despite recording several hundred songs, many of which he wrote. From the late 1920s through the late 1950s, this immensely prolific blues performer won over fellow musicians and “race music” fans alike. As mentor to Muddy Waters and a major influence on artists like Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Rod Stewart, Broonzy’s impact on music cannot be understated. This solo performance captures Big Bill’s affable personality and ability to hold the attention of an appreciative audience with his storytelling, acoustic guitar licks, and a strong singing voice that leaves an indelible impression that this man had experiences in the fields, the factories, and the railroads. The record was mastered from original analog tape by Dave Gardner at Infrasonic Mastering, and pressed at Furnace Record Pressing. Liner notes by Larry Jaffee.

Würm was a sludge metal band started in 1973 by bass player Chuck Dukowski, who would later join Black Flag. Without Würm, the genres of punk rock and hardcore would never have been the same. The band’s practice space, the Würmhole – a hangout for musicians in Hermosa Beach during the mid-late 70’s – is where Keith Morris and Greg Ginn met Dukowski and ultimately formed the original Black Flag line-up. The band’s only album, Feast, was released in 1985 after the band’s demise. With the help of Chuck Dukowski, the long-out-of-print LP is being “exhumed” and reissued, along with a second LP featuring unreleased tracks, demos, and more. The package comes complete with retrospective liner notes from Dukowski himself, plus never-before-seen photos from the early days. Previously released on limited edition blue color vinyl for Black Friday 2019, this double LP release is now widely available on black vinyl.

The Spiritual, a free jazz album recorded by the Art Ensemble of Chicago in 1974, finds the group of stellar musicians at their creative peak. With various types of percussion, though the absence of a traditional drummer, the ensemble is able to create vivid, freeing compositions without the confines of conventional structure. The quartet, consisting of Joseph Jarman, Roscoe Mitchell, Lester Bowie, and Malachi Favors, explore the depths of Avant-Garde Jazz through a means that has yet to be touched on in a comparable capacity. Previously released on red color vinyl exclusively for Record Store Day, The Spiritual will now be widely available on 180gram black vinyl. Mastered by Dave Gardner at Infrasonic Mastering. Formed in Vallejo, California in the 1950's, The Viscaynes were a high school doo-wop group who are said to be the first recorded singing group of Sylvester Stewart (aka Sly Stone), and the launching point of his extensive career. The group gained some early notoriety with a performance on Dick Stewart's Dance Party, after which they were introduced to producer George Motola. Charting on KYA radio's top 60 chart in 1961, "Yellow Moon" became a hit song for The Viscaynes, though they split up around the time of the song's popularity. "The Viscaynes & Friends" is the first official full-length release from the group, coming to light only after a master tape reel was discovered more than half a century since the group disbanded. The release features seven tracks from Sly and The Viscaynes, along with one cut from the The Individuals and two from The Precisions, all of which were produced by Motola.
The vinyl release comes in a gatefold jacket with extensive liner notes from author, historian, and radio host Rickey Vincent.

The Ad Libs, a phenomenal yet under-appreciated American vocal group hailing from Hudson County, NJ, had their first and only smash hit within their first year as a group, with ‘The Boy From New York City.’ Though several other singles from the doo-wop group landed on the Billboard R&B chart’s, The Ad Libs never released a full length album. Presenting The Ad Libs is the group’s debut album that never happened. A collection of singles, b-sides, and unused studio cuts come together to show the 1960’s soul singers in a whole new light. The tracks were remastered for vinyl at Infrasonic Mastering and pressed at Pallas Group in Germany on purple color vinyl.

Sun Ra, the extraordinary, outlandish, and sometimes controversial pianist, is often described as an “acquired taste”, with a massive and diverse catalog. This release is a good place to start for uninitiated or dismissive listeners. The album showcases Ra’s grounding in the jazz tradition, with unique takes on standards like “Time After Time,” “Easy to Love,” and “But Not for Me”. Not unordinary for Sun Ra, the recording process was informal; “Can This Be Love?” was recorded in his Chicago apartment in 1955; he is accompanied only by the great Wilbur Ware on bass. The other five tracks, which feature, among others, Ra’s longtime associate John Gilmore on tenor saxophone, were recorded at the Choreographer’s Workshop rehearsal space in 1962 and 1963. The album was mastered for vinyl by Dave Gardner at Infrasonic Mastering, and pressed at Pallas Group in Germany.

Never before been pressed to vinyl, Shirley Horn’s Softly is reflective of the album’s late night recording sessions at Peirre Sprey’s home recording studio in rural Maryland, aptly named Mapleshade Studio. The 1988 release is commonly referred to as one of Horn’s most introspective and emotionally intensive records to date. With her sidemen Charles Ables (bass) and Steve Williams (percussion) gathered into a quaint, pastoral living room full of recording equipment, the trio plowed through the tunes, tracking almost until dawn. The album was remastered for vinyl at Infrasonic Mastering and pressed on audiophile-grade vinyl at Pallas Group in Germany.

Released on the heels of her critically acclaimed 2018 album, With the Sun, Sunny War’s new album finds her a little bit older, a little bit more mature, but looking back on the rocky roads of her past with a surprising amount of nostalgia. Shell of a Girl was written in a burst of creativity in Los Angeles, and marks a new transition period, with Sunny moving from the Venice Beach boardwalk, where she first made her name, to the streets of downtown Los Angeles.
Recording again at Hen House Studios on Venice Beach with producer Harlan Steinberger and her musical collaborators Micah Nelson (Particle Kid), Aroyn Davis, Milo Gonzalez, Tato Melgar, Lesterfari Simbarashe, and Edith Crash rounding out the cast, Sunny moves freely between musical genres, anchored by her virtuosic, self-taught fingerstyle guitar work. Playing on a temperamental Guild acoustic guitar, that she’s named Big Baby for its tendency to squall and feedback, Sunny’s guitar work is as dazzling as ever, notes cascading out of the guitar in Art Tatumish flourishes.

Description:
Luke Top was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He has dedicated the last two decades to recording and performing music. A majority of that time (2008-2015), was spent as the lead singer of Fool’s Gold, a band that has enjoyed international acclaim for their cathartic live shows and seductive experiments in global psychedelia. When Fool’s Gold disbanded, Luke shifted gears musically, going solo with the release of his full length album “Suspect Highs” in 2016. SPIN magazine called the album “a deeply earnest and deeply honest confessional.” The opportunity to play as a touring member of the band Electric Guest presented itself in 2017, so Luke joined up in support their second album, “Plural.” It was during this period that Luke partnered with longtime friend, Jason Quever of Papercuts, to open a recording studio in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. In this space, Luke found the freedom to explore a variety of bold new musical tangents, further refining his unique brand of songwriting and producing. The resulting body of work is collected in a new 5 song EP entitled “The Dumb-Show”. It features guest musicians Kyle Crane on drums (Daniel Lanois/Neko Case) and Seth Ford-Young (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros) on upright bass.

Teamed up with pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Niels Pedersen and drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath for a club date at Copenhagen's Montmartre in 1967, the great tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin really stretches out on four numbers: "The Man I Love," "Hush-A-Bye," "Blues for Harvey" and a memorable version of "The Masquerade Is Over." Griffin shows why he was early on billed as "the world's fastest tenor" although he also displays warmth on "Sophisticated Lady." A fine example of Griffin's underrated talents. The album was remastered for vinyl from original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman, and pressed on audiophile-grade vinyl at Pallas Group in Germany.

A fixture on the international music scene since 1981, Falco has been described by The New York Times as “A singer, guitarist and researcher of musical arcana who hasn’t let his increasingly technical expertise and idiomatic mastery compromise the clarity of his vision.” At the start of a scorching hot July in Memphis this year, Falco and his distinguished group of American/Euro vagabonds ensconced themselves at Sam Phillips Recording Service studios in Memphis. The lineup includes bassist Mike Watt, guitarist Mario Monterosso, and drummer Toby Dammit.

As Ron Wynn wrote for AllMusic, “Fred McDowell played simple, haunting blues with vivid, demonstrative passion and power.” This is music that owes nothing to artifice, but simply makes its impact through the total honesty of the performer. Of all the blues singers of the older school who have been discovered or rediscovered in recent years, McDowell may well be the most impressive, and this LP affords ample proof of his stature. “Mississippi Delta Blues” was recorded in Como, Mississippi, late in 1965, by producer Alan Bates. The LP was originally issued by Bate’s Black Lion label in 1965. It has now been remastered by Infrasonic Mastering, and pressed on audiophile-grade vinyl at Pallas Group in Germany.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was the first great recording star of gospel music and among the first gospel musicians to appeal to rhythm-and-blues and rock-and-roll audiences, later being referred to as "the original soul sister" and "the godmother of rock and roll". The set has plenty of variety, lots of sincere feeling, and high levels of musicianship from the unique performer. Highlights include "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands," "Didn't It Rain," "The Gospel Train" and "Down By the Riverside." At The Rock House is the first full length album by Roy Orbison, recorded in 1956 but not released until 1961 by Sun Record Company. The record showcases Roy Orbison’s early work, which falls somewhere between the rock & roll that was happening in mid 50’s and the more lush, dramatic sound that he later perfected. Previously out of press on vinyl, it has now been remastered for a high quality vinyl pressing.

Flugelhornist Art Farmer and guitarist Jim Hall had a regular group for a time in the mid-’60s but (except for one occasion) had not played together since, until this 1978 LP. This is an unusual effort for CTI in that it is a quintet set without added horns, strings or keyboards. Farmer and Hall are joined by vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, bassist Michael Moore and drummer Steve Gadd for two standards, the title cut and a jazz adaptation of a piece by Ravel. Since Farmer and Hall have long had very complementary styles (both being lyrical, harmonically advanced and thoughtful in their improvisations), it is little surprise that this set is a complete success.
Now this classic recording gets ORG Music’s audiophile treatment with this 180gram LP reissue, mastered from original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed at Pallas Group in Germany.
Track:
1."Whisper Not" (Benny Golson)
2."A Child Is Born" (Thad Jones)
3."Big Blues" (Jim Hall)
4."Pavane for a Dead Princess" (Maurice Ravel)
Description Influential jazz pianist Earl Hines is in top form on this brilliant solo set, recorded in November of 1972 in New York City. The recording fined Hines near the peak of his creativity, taking wild chances with time and coming up with fresh new variations on these veteran standards. Now it's sounding better than ever on this audiophile-grade reissue, which was mastered from original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on 180gram vinyl at Pallas in Germany.

The irrepressible Sandra Boynton brings you eleven all-out musical tracks, in a dizzying array of dance styles. And her original songs are performed here by the best of the best: The ever-wonderful Kristen Bell urges everyone to just “Dance It Out”. Samuel L. Jackson stomps his captivating way through “Tyrannosaurus Funk”. The smoldering Patrick Wilson channels Elvis in the rockabilly “Hog Wild” title track. Stanley Tucci is the impossibly frenetic caller of the “Rat Race”. Five For Fighting goes full-on big band era with a stunning slow-build/big-finish “Swing Thing.” And when’s the last time you heard Laura Linney and “Weird Al” Yankovic perform a track together? Here they give you the electronic sci-fi “Robot Dance”, which Mr. Yankovic suddenly turns into a Broadway tap dance number. All this and so much more.
