Sahib's Jazz Party is an album by saxophonist/flautist Sahib Shihab, recorded live at the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, around the same time that he relocated there in 1963. Shihab is joined by flugelhornist Allan Botchinsky, guitarist Ole Molin, drummer Alex Riel, and 17-year old bass prodigy Niels Henning Orsted Pederson. The recordings showcase Sahib’s diversity and dexterity as a player, including his openness to the avant-garde style, expanding on the bop era playing he is known for. The audio has been remastered by Dave Gardner and pressed on audiophile-grade vinyl at Pallas Group in Germany.

Lost and Found

ORGM-2303

Regular price $24.00 Save $-24.00

Eramus Hall was a soul/funk group from Detroit, whose debut “Your Love Is My Desire" became one of the most sought-after records of the modern soul era, coveted by DJs and record collectors alike. The group only recorded the one album for Westbound Records, home of funk heavyweights Funkadelic and Ohio Players, before moving to Capitol for their second and final album in 1984. After a definitive reissue of Eramus Hall's debut album, Org Music and Westbound Records have teamed up again to release a full LP worth of rare and previously unreleased tracks, including some of their earliest demos. Joel Martin, who produced the group’s output for Westbound, has overseen the mixing of the unearthed material, over four decades after he originally recorded them. The record will be pressed on color vinyl with a package that features never-before-seen photos and newly penned liner notes.

Johnny Bragg

Let Me Dream On

ORGM-2289

Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00

Revered singer Johnny Bragg wrote and recorded classic 1950s R&B hits, such as “Just Walkin’ in the Rain” (as lead vocalist of the Prisonaires) and “Rollin’ Stone” (fronting the Marigolds), while serving time at the Tennessee State Penitentiary. For years, the recordings collected here lay dormant and unheard in a garden shed in Nashville. Unearthed and assembled to coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s acclaimed exhibit Night Train to Nashville: Music City Rhythm & Blues, these cuts are a rich trove encompassing previously unreleased songwriting demos, band rehearsals, and live recordings that, fortunately, Bragg preserved on tape in the 1960s and 1970s. It’s a time capsule of classic Nashville R&B, now available for the first time in any format.

He has been recognized as “an iconoclast, and one of the most innovative musicians and drummers of his generation”  [The Wire],  which is evident nowhere more than on his latest album, Jubilation. The new work features collaborators Matt LaVelle on trumpet, Stevie Manning on alto saxophone, On Davis on guitar, and Adam Lane on Bass. The release marks Hooker’s fourth outing for Org Music, following Flesh and Bones (2023), Big Moon (2021), and Symphonie of Flowers (2019).

Hooker says of Jubilation, “our express purpose was to play great music and to communicate such.” The group, captured live in 2023 at acclaimed Brooklyn performance arts venue Roullette,  does just that. The dynamic set showcases each of the players’ unique craft with extended solo performances, introducing new elements and building towards a more collaborative effort as the piece progresses. The result, captured faithfully on this recording, is pure Jubilation (noun; a feeling of great happiness and triumph).

Carducci Bros is the collaborative release from brothers Mark and Joe Carducci, Mike Watt, and Jerry Trebotic. The project was spurred into action when Watt heard a decades-old record from Mark’s high school rock band Midknight. The songs are accented with spoken word lyrics from Joe, with some penned by SST Records’ house producer/engineer Spot, who passed during the record’s creation. Featuring a deft rhythm section and Mark Carducci’s reverb drenched guitar, the project showcases the unique creative vision that has made the SST scene such a vital and enduring force for decades.

Velvert Turner is largely known for being a protégé and student of Jimi Hendrix, who he met as a teenager in New York in the late ‘60s. The influence is immediately clear, with respect to both Turner’s guitar work and vocals. Some have even mistaken his only album for a “lost” Hendrix recording, and it’s hard to blame them. Velvert Turner Group’s self-titled 1972 release, which aptly closes with a tribute to Hendrix (a cover of “Freedom”), has been out of print for decades. Now it’s coming back to vinyl with a pink color pressing, mastered from original analog tapes. This reissue features an alternate mix of the first song, “Madonna (of the Seven Moons)”, as a bonus track.

Merry Christmas From Jackie Wilson

ORGM-2192

Regular price $28.00 Save $-28.00

Just six years into his career as a solo artist, with a dozen albums already under his belt, Jackie Wilson was reaching new peaks in 1963. He had already earned his nickname, Mr. Excitement, for his reputation as a master showman and a vocal virtuoso, boasting a four-octave range. It’s not surprising that Wilson’s take on holiday classics like "Silent Night”, "White Christmas”, and "O Little Town of Bethlehem” were well received, scoring 'Merry Christmas from Jackie Wilson’ a place at #6 on the charts, making it the highest charting album of Wilson's career. Previously out of print for decades, the album is finally back on vinyl, just in time for the holiday season.
