William Hooker is a musician, composer, and poet with over 70 recordings as a leader, encompassing jazz, new music, experimental music and multi-disciplinary forms of expression (e.g. dance, silent film and spoken word). He has been recognized as “an iconoclast, and one of the most innovative musicians and drummers of his generation” [The Wire], which is evident nowhere more than on his latest album, Jubilation. The new work features collaborators Matt LaVelle on trumpet, Stevie Manning on alto saxophone, On Davis on guitar, and Adam Lane on Bass. The release marks Hooker’s fourth outing for Org Music, following Flesh and Bones (2023), Big Moon (2021), and Symphonie of Flowers (2019).
Hooker says of Jubilation, “our express purpose was to play great music and to communicate such.” The group, captured live in 2023 at acclaimed Brooklyn performance arts venue Roullette, does just that. The dynamic set showcases each of the players’ unique craft with extended solo performances, introducing new elements and building towards a more collaborative effort as the piece progresses. The result, captured faithfully on this recording, is pure Jubilation (noun; a feeling of great happiness and triumph).

Live at Bonnaroo '22 captures Melbourne psych-rockers King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard at their most freewheeling and ferocious. Taking the stage at the Tennessee festival to a captive audience as the clock struck midnight, the band ripped through this eleven-song set with intensity, letting up only to space out on certain tracks like the near ten-minute "Magenta Mountain" and a poignant rendition of fan favorite "Work This Time". This official bootlegger version of the release is spread out across two LPs, with one pressed on plutonium and the other on magma color vinyl. Skywriting is the latest full length album from Zachary Cale, primarily recorded at Black Dirt Studio by Jason Meagher in upstate New York. As Cale’s seventh studio record, Skywriting takes on a new focus for the seasoned songwriter, pivoting to more of a band-focused rock album. Inspired by many years on the road, the songs that make up the album depict characters in a state of perpetual motion, or better yet a constant state of becoming. The gamble and sacrifice that one makes in pursuit of their art is felt in just about every line. Many of the songs reflect on time spent traveling between cities, being away from loved ones, introspective moments in motel rooms, green rooms, and long stretches of highway.

While Dedication is chock full of newly penned numbers as strong as any in the band’s catalog, longtime fans will recognize “Room To Breathe”, an updated version of a tune from their 2005 debut. Initially only available digitally, the music is now coming to vinyl with updated artwork and a lyric insert, just in time for their long awaited return to the stage

Transitions, the third album from Boston ska stalwarts Westbound Train, is finally receiving its first ever vinyl pressing, 17 years after its initial release on Tim Armstrong’s Hellcat Records. The 16-song set showcases the band in peak form, dexterously weaving flavors of early Jamaican ska, reggae, and rocksteady with the ‘60s American influences of jazz, soul, and funk to create their own authentic sound. As AllMusic states in their 4-star review, "Transitions isn't just an homage to the past, but a reinvention of all its power and glory.” Frontman Obi Fernandez provides powerful, emotive vocal performances throughout the record, and Alex Desert of Hepcat lends his signature voice for two cuts. The double LP comes housed in a gatefold jacket, featuring newly penned liner notes from producer and engineer Brian Wallace.

As Sunny War's newest masterpiece, Simple Syrup has a vibrant, loose feel, more focused on the interplay with the musicians than ever before. Sunny’s new songs touch on everything from romance to politics, jumping easily between larger concepts like the expectations for famous Black women in American art (“Like Nina”) and smaller ideas like “Kiss A Loser”, her ode to her own drunken self in relationships. Surrounded by relentless pressures from societal change, Sunny worked more closely with her community and embarked on a nearly year-long recording spree that brought two EPs (one of which, Can I Sit With You?, made a number of Best of 2020 lists) and now Simple Syrup. The pandemic has been a crucible for Sunny, burning away the parts of the old world that didn’t truly matter and leaving her with a new purpose.
Recorded in Venice, CA at Hen House Studios.

Sugar Candy Mountain gallops seamlessly from tripped out Tropicália, Shuggie Otis inspired grooves, kaleidoscopic psych jams, classic 70's reverie, and nods to krautrock without ever skipping a beat. Along the way Reiter's honeyed voice hovers seductively between breaking and beauty, taking us on a sensational ride through the ups and downs of apocalyptic visions, tender sunlit musings on love, and deep gazes of self reflection. "As the year 2020 approached, a number of exciting plans were in the works for me to continue my yearlong 80th Birthday Tour that had successfully kicked off on May 26th, 2019. But on February 2nd , 2020, I played my one & only concert of the year! Because in March of 2020, the worldwide shutdown and ban of all live musical performances sadly became a way of life. Music, and live music in particular, is one of the true phenomenons of our very existence, so to have it eliminated effects each and every one of us leaving a void and disrupting & severing some of the most vital elements of the human spirit! On a personal level & due to my DNA I was compelled to seek out a solution for me to remain creative, positive and sane! So in September of 2020, after spending 5 agonizing months in isolation and musical lock down, I decided to uplift my spirits by launching a solo recording project. I wasn’t sure how I would do it, or even if I were in enough shape to do it. I dug down deep for strength & the courage that was needed to began the process of creating a lasting piece of Art After discussing the idea with some of my close fans and friends , I was inspired to precede; the problem though was ,with the exception of playing a couple of numbers one night at a beautiful gathering in Malibu , I hadn’t played with anyone in 5 months, so it still took a lot of soul searching to actually go forward! Time is a ever changing ever evolving never ceasing constant, In the 1970’s I composed a album entitled “The Time Is Now”, so once again time is the theme, motivation & inspiration for a Phil Ranelin project All of the positive flow of energy and love that surrounded me, gave me the courage to precede with the idea of recording a album that would represent a 2020 version of myself; “INFINITE EXPRESSIONS” is in fact , a true labor of Love! So with guidance from the ultimate source, the most high, I was able to complete the project that hopefully you are listening to right now! All of my life I have had spiritual guidance & protection that has allowed me to stay the course and persevere, this project is no different! THANK YOU GOD!"
Twenty-six years after The Minutemen's landmark Double Nickels on the Dime, Watt returns to the familiar punk and jazz influenced sound he and his band made famous. This time, it's more refined and more mature without lacking any of the energy or urgency of yesteryear. Hyphenated-Man features thirty songs in 47 minutes with Watt on bass, his deep baritone singing melodies and reciting spoken word while the Missingmen (Raul Morales and Tom Watson) wail on drums and guitar.
"Take It Away" is the most recent album from Memphis-based guitarist Mario Monterosso. Introducing the self-titled debut from cosmic rock 'n rollers Color Green! This seasoned duo is comprised of Noah Kohll (Surf Curse, Current Joys, Young Guv, and more) and Corey Madden ( Richard Rose, Grave Flowers Bongo Band). Color Green formed in Ridgewood, Queens in 2018. Their sound culls from the eternal solitude of working musicians, the feeling of infinite transition, and the need to create a space that transmits the strange sounds of American music. Pulling from the Allman Brothers, Acetone, the Grateful Dead, and other acts from the dusty storage boxes of their attics, Color Green are searchers for a continuation of classic songwriting through the use of collaboration and close examination of the relics of yesterday’s past, while maintaining the spirit of their present selves. This co-release with Aquarium Drunkard will be unleashed upon the world on 7/22/2022, available on LP, CD, and digitally.

From the rare and obscure to the unknown, producer Tee Cardaci mines eleven genre-spanning gems produced during the waning days of Brazil's military dictatorship, recorded by a new emerging class of artists operating outside of the major label system. Sonhos Secretos, or Secret Dreams in English, alludes to the quiet aspirations of those that made these independent and privately released seven-inches as well as to the fact that many of these records have long remained essentially a secret. It's also, to some extent, a reference to a certain dream-like quality that permeates this collection. While the songs featured here can all can be housed under the blanket term, MPB (Música Popular Brasileira or Brazilian Popular Music), they also contain, to varying degrees, elements of jazz, soul, folk, prog, baroque rock and shimmering pop. This unique compilation, presented by reissue specialists Org Music and online audio journal Aquarium Drunkard, includes a fold-out insert with artist interviews and additional liner notes by Brazilian music scholar Allen Thayer. The audio was restored and mastered by award winning engineer Dave Gardner.

From there they went on to record a surplus of home recordings with various friends under the moniker The Moldy Peaches, and eventually became staples in the NYC anti-folk scene of the late 90’s/ early 2000’s. Planet Chernobyl. Poem, libretto, opera. There’s more than one Planet Chernobyl. You’ll find that here, in the words of poet Charles Plymell, the vision of bassist Mike Watt and the orchestrations of singer/composer Petra Haden. After finding the heavy subject matter very moving, Watt and Haden were inspired to put the words to music in order to share them with the world. Planet Chernobyl will be available on vinyl on 6/16, with cover artwork by Tanya Haden.
Estimated Ship Date is December 17th Over 60 releases and 44 years into his career as a jazz drummer and composer, William Hooker has made (arguably) his best album yet during the pandemic in 2020, a follow up to his critically acclaimed 2019 album “Symphonie of Flowers". Clocking in at 83 minutes in total (depending on the format you’re listening to), “Big Moon” is as expansive as it is groundbreaking. With a reputation as one of the most innovative composers and drummers of his generation, for those in the know, Hooker does not disappoint on this latest work. Supported by a dynamic group of players which varies throughout the piece, Hooker weaves elements of spiritual and avant-garde jazz with tropical rhythms through eleven movements of the meditative journey that is “Big Moon”; a work that should be ingested and contemplated as one body of work. The release was mastered by Dave Gardner at Infrasonic Mastering, comes housed in a gatefold jacket, and features poetry from William Hooker. Includes digital download.

Skip James was a Delta blues artist from Mississippi. Known for his career during the Great Depression and subsequent decades, he was “rediscovered” and became much more widely recognized during the 1960’s when he was in very poor health nearing the end of his life. His playing style was primarily in a minor key, featuring complex fingerpicking. The compilation is made up of some of the earliest years of James' career, pulling from his historic Paramount sessions, and showcases the astounding talent he possessed from the very beginning. After years of being out of print, a remastered version of The Complete 1931 Sessions has been reissued, featuring new artwork and liner notes.

The Found Tapes: Live in Los Angeles is a four LP box set from Tribe Records co-founder Phil Ranelin, celebrating a trio of LA club performances from 1978-1981 which remain especially significant to the visionary trombonist. Backed by a young Billy Childs on piano, Ralph Penland on drums, and Tony Dumas on bass, Ranelin was in peak form as a player and bandleader during this period. This is particularly true of one specific outing at the now shuttered Maiden Voyage in Los Angeles on July 19, 1981, which is presented in full within this set. The audio was restored from decades old cassette tapes which have never been heard until now. A master trombonist of the J.J. Johnson tradition, Ranelin’s career has spanned over five decades with eleven records as a solo artist, four as a Freddie Hubbard sideman, session recordings for Motown, and work with artists ranging from Stevie Wonder and Ella Fitzgerald to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Telefon Tel Aviv. The release is available everywhere on January 26th as a 4 LP box set, three CD set, and digital download.

In 1989, the Ukrainian band Vopli Vidopliassova, darlings of the Soviet punk scene, released a semi-official cassette tape called Tantsi (“Dances”). The album contained songs in both Ukrainian and Russian and was recorded in one night, at an adrenaline-fueled DIY session in Kyiv. It was intended by the band members to be nothing more than a demo tape. But soon fans started dubbing the cassette, and for connoisseurs of Soviet punk, the recording quickly gained cult status for its nervy and often hilarious songs poking fun at life in the last years of the USSR. In 2019, the original session tape was re-discovered, and in 2023, Tantsi finally gets its first official release. Featuring the original album fully re-mastered plus some rare bonus tracks, Tantsi is a time capsule from late Soviet Kyiv, where Ukrainian punks were rebelling against the repressive rule from the Kremlin, and imagining new horizons of possibility. Tantsi was released on vinyl for the first time for Record Store Day 2023, limited to 2,000 copies worldwide.

Melding sharp hooks with the rawness of early Hüsker Dü, the band quickly became local favorites among their scene. A full three decades later, ORG Music is remastering and reissuing their blistering self-titled debut for its first US release. Produced by Butch Vig, the record sees a young version of the band at their most urgent, and even features a Beatles cover for good measure. Limited to 1,000 copies, this 30th anniversary pressing is available on clear with red and yellow splatter vinyl.

The record is comprised of two three-part suites and the 10 minute “Down In Brazil,” among which are two vocal parts and a poem recitation. The outing finds Shepp, then in his musical prime, backed by a stellar group of players which grows to 13 pieces at times. Thriller is the 1975 album from Augustus Pablo, the reggae visionary who popularized the use of the melodica in the genre. As the founder of multiple labels, he was a crucial part of invigorating the burgeoning dub reggae scene in its early days. The record’s warm, mellow sound makes for a breezy and hypnotic listen, perfectly paired with a jazz cigarette. This lost gem has been reissued with updated artwork from D. Norsen, and was pressed at Furnace Record Pressing.

The Color Green EP is 20 minutes of lysergic, countercultural Americana haze where tendrils of weeping steel guitar drip through latticeworks of quicksilver guitar leads under dozy stacks of cloudy vocal harmonies. Produced entirely by Kohll, the four track EP was recorded on a Tascam 488 at various locations across the country and features a cast of freaks: Coley Gold, Alex Amini, Eric Carney and John “Catfish” DeLorme. This release will be available on green vinyl as a 12" EP.

94-95 anthologizes the seven songs from the now-classic Samuel EP and 7"s released by Art Monk Construction and Simba Records in the mid-nineties. This brief-but-essential collection of post-hardcore/emo/indie rock archival material sounds as timely and fresh as it did during the pivotal time the songs were recorded. 94-95 fits in nicely alongside releases by Texas Is the Reason, The Promise Ring, Christie Front Drive and others from that influential era, now being discovered by a new generation of emo and punk fans. Remixed from the original analog masters by Benjamin Green and remastered by Levi Seitz, 94-95 will be available on all digital streaming services on November 3rd, and on vinyl on February 17th 2023. This archival release is available on red and black swirl color vinyl.

While its makers are firmly rooted in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s DIY independent music scene, Samuel S.C.’s debut LP High Places is very much a product of the present. Featuring eight songs of varying tempo and intensity, High Places is bound by assured, contemplative lyrics and propulsive grooves, all delivered in equal parts gritty, graceful precision. Several tracks are reimagined 90’s Samuel originals, the remaining were concocted fresh by the newly configured group between 2021 and 2022. High Places burns and sways with a contemporary-yet-timeless energy that will satisfy both contemporary emo-pop listeners and older fans of vintage indie/punk/hardcore. The record is available on clear and black swirl vinyl.

Cecil Taylor has always been considered one of the most daring and radical improvisers within the jazz genre, often pushing the boundaries with avant-garde and free jazz compositions. The Great Paris Concert is no exception Taylor's reputation. The artistic communication between the players of Taylor's quartet is second to none, and it's certainly palpable on every track of the album. Echoing each other's melodies, and 'battling' each other with solos, the group may have never sounded better. This historic concert - long out of print on vinyl - has been remastered by Infrasonic Mastering, and is presented across two audiophile-grade LPs, complete with photos and liner notes. It was pressed on white vinyl and limited to 2,000 copies.
